It's nearly impossible to think of an occupation or an industry these days that is not directly impacted by the information technology industry. Just think: there is a skilled professional (or many!) behind every computer, software program, and data network in existence. A technology degree or preparation program could potentially help open up a variety of career opportunities.

The computer has become the main tool in society for the processing of data, the development of information and the main form of communication. Arguably, no other technological advancement has affected our global society like the computer and information technology. Achieving the level of computer literacy by today’s standards is insufficient.

Our students will need an understanding of the social significance of information technology, the ability to analyze and evaluate ethical considerations from the use of
information technology and gain an appreciation of the development and historical significance of the computer and information technology.

Educational technology, especially computers and computer-related peripherals, have grown tremendously and have permeated all areas of our lives. It is incomprehensible that anyone today would argue that banks, hospitals, or any industry should use less technology. Most young people cannot understand arguments that schools should limit technology use. For them, use of the Internet, for example, plays a major role in their relationships with their friends, their families, and their schools.
